The 1838 passenger list entry states his place of birth as "Allefeld",[2] which fits pretty well to the parish of Alfeld, that is mentioned in the birth record.[1] Also the last place of residence, he stated as Everode,[2] is exactly where his mother passed away in 1838.[6] So one can assume that the person immigrating in 1838 is identical with the one born on 22 January.
Love In Mind ?
In 1957 there was a newspaper story published in Victoria, Texas, that tells a story about Baron von Lockhausen (sic!), who came to Texas because the German emperor would not let him marry a commoner. Later he was lynched by a mob, who assumed he helped a fugitive escape. The story is apparently based on an interview with George Edward's grandson Edward Otto Lochausen.[7]
The story contains factual errors:
Germany did not have an Emperor during the whole time George Edward was living there.
The story claims that the son Herman was ten years old, when his father was killed. According to his death record, Herman was born in 1853.[8] If the death year of 1867 is correct,[citation needed] he would have been around 14 back then.
Further it's claimed that Herman had to take care of his mother and his brother. According to George Edward's FamilySearch profile, there were also two younger sisters[9]
The story still might be accurate about the places he lived in Texas. The story tells that he settled in Hope, Lavaca County. After falling in love with his later wife, daughter of "Ammenecker Mott" (?) east of Thomaston, close by Victoria, he became one of the first settlers of Colettoville around 1849. He later bought a farm about half a mile south of Inez.
